Creativity in the classroom [Artículo en inglés]

Teaching is a mere and constant processing of diverse options, therefore, creativity should be included as much as you can in your planning and classroom.

When analyzing the need to be creative and adopt it in your lessons, just remember that MOTIVATED TEACHERS MEANS MOTIVATED LEARNERS!

We need STRATEGIES to engage learners, keep them interested and motivate teachers as well!

Heads, Coordinators and Teachers should have a very strong vision of what educating children is all about and do what they believe is right for their students, despite the system. Finally, they should understand that the way people learn has become an integral part of their daily practice.

Why do we need to incorporate Creativity to the Educational System?

Creativity is one of the key requirements in today's world, which is changing at an unprecedented speed. What kind of Creativity are we talking about? There are more than 120 different definitions of creativity, but in the school context are we talking about: creativity in arts, a creative response to everyday situations, creativity in coming up with new ideas, creativity as in different ways of looking at things, such as breaking the established patterns of thinking and encouraging both freedom in self-expression and change of attitudes.

Remember: rigidness is useless… New ideas are always welcome!

Schooling in its essence is anti-creative

At present, the sad situation in most schools is that mistakes are punished, conformity is rewarded and what we generally expect is regurgitation of information.

What are the still almost unknown areas in the Educational System?

  • Lateral Thinking
  • Taking risks
  • Making mistakes and learning from them
  • Playing with ideas
